Help For Children (HFC) was first founded in 1998 by Rob Davis, Managing Director of McAlinden Research Partners, with the goal of raising funds for the prevention and treatment of child abuse. Now serving as Chairman Emeritus, Rob witnessed first-hand the devastating effects of abuse on innocent children in his early career as a teacher. Embraced by the hedge fund industry from the onset, Help For Children has grown from a single dinner held in New York City to a worldwide presence, operating with branches in six countries, raising donations from the financial services sector and making grants to effective and efficient organizations focused on protecting and healing children from the trauma of abuse.
HFC United Kingdom, the third international affiliate of Help For Children, was founded in 2006 by Rob Mirsky. The current UK Board President, Gunner Burkhart, works with 16 additional Board members to ensure that HFC UK successfully raises and distributes funds for the best child abuse prevention and treatment programs in the United Kingdom.
The Committee organises a range of events annually. The inaugural fundraising dinner was held at the Café de Paris in London on October 12, 2006. Annual galas are held in London each December to complete the year's fundraising activity. In 2015, HFC United Kingdom added a London to Paris Bike Ride to their calendar of events.
Since inception, HFC United Kingdom has distributed over £1.2 million in 41 grants to organizations including Action for Children, Home-Start Lambeth, The National Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children, Community Service Volunteers, Beatbullying, Family Matters, Imara, Safer London and Centrepoint Soho Limited.
